16 kids and 2 pastors were going to Cambodia on Jan 12, 2025. We worked hard as a team and as a whole community. It wasn’t always easy for us to cooperate with each other. We had some mixed feelings toward other teammates while working together.
The start of this volunteer trip wasn’t exactly on Jan 12. It was way before. We met up in teams to prepare for our classes. The teams were divided into subjects: PE, art, and science. I was a teammate in the PE class. At first, our team was not really close to each other. We often had some arguments about when to meet up or what to do. But instead of fighting, we always tried to figure it out. We tried our best to gather our opinions and make the decision.
The classes that we had prepared are archery, flipping boards, curling, and tail tag. I was the leader of teaching kids how to play archery. We didn’t actually prepare the real bow and arrow. We prepared different kinds of balls for the kids to throw and a big target where the kids could throw the ball. The ball would be covered in paint in order for us to choose the winning team. The winning team would each get a sticker.
Not only did we present the classes, but it was also a time to spread and inform the gospel of God. We prayed for each other’s lives and society, not only for this typical Christian school but also for this land of Cambodia. Numerically, Buddhism is about 95% in Cambodia, and only about 1% believes in Christianity. We spread the word of God to the little ones. Not only did we teach the kids, but we also hung out with them. They needed love and attention from us, and whenever they tried to hug us, we hugged them back without any hesitation.
